A Heap of Anime News Landed During the Holidays

The Yuletide season provide a multitude of pastimes far superior than catching up on the headlines: unwrapping gifts, indulging in holiday treats, and employing patience techniques to not arguing with relatives. I hope you succeeded in do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting news items emerged during the festive period, and just in case you missed a few, here is a summary of the most exciting bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (Come 2027)

Perhaps the most surprising revelation, the widely-criticized troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to halt the series' continuation. The show will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they could have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain at the helm. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the outset, which might be a positive development. Yet, the key visual for the second cour is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This suggests that, nowadays, they could be mocking the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an top-tier animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its work but for the ethical practices of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series showed it maintained the fans' support and enthusiasm, and now everyone is overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production

Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English localization, but the anime has been running for a while, and its sixth season was a further stellar entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

Another studio renowned for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has brought us critically acclaimed works of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.

Tougen Anki Will Return With a Season Two

Immediately following the airing of its twenty-fourth episode, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be getting a follow-up. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has not yet been announced.
