Analysts Spot Kremlin Intimidation Operation Targeting Tomahawk Employment

The Kremlin is conducting a “reflexive control” initiative of threats to discourage the United States from providing Tomahawk cruise missiles to Kyiv, according to defense experts. A senior legislator remarked: “We know these projectiles completely, how they fly, how to shoot them down, we worked on them in Middle East operations, so there is nothing new. Only those who supply them and those who use them will have problems … We will find ways to damage those who create problems for us.”

Ukraine's Military Push Progress

Kyiv's troops were inflicting heavy losses in a strategic push in the Donetsk front, the war's main theatre, Ukraine's leader said on Wednesday. The Ukrainian president's account, following a report by his top commander, contrasted with the Russian president's speech before senior Russian officers a prior day in which he claimed the invading army possessed the operational control in every combat zone.

According to analysis covering October's first week, military analysts said Russia was incurring heavy casualty rates, especially due to unmanned aerial vehicle assaults, in compensation of minor territorial gains. Kyiv's troops, the president stated, were “defending ourselves along all other directions”, highlighting especially Kupiansk, a largely destroyed urban area in the northeastern front under heavy Russian assaults for months.

Regional Developments

Administrative officials in southern Ukraine of Kherson said offensive operations on Wednesday killed three people in and around the city of the oblast center. Local authorities of the Sumy oblast, on the border area with the Russian Federation, said three individuals were killed in unmanned aerial strikes in multiple locations. Ukrainian aerial defense said it successfully countered 154 out of 183 offensive unmanned aircraft overnight into Wednesday.

A Russian attack seriously damaged a Ukrainian energy facility, authorities said on Wednesday. Facility personnel were harmed during the strike, according to power utility representatives. They provided limited details, including the facility's position, but Ukrainian authorities said strikes hit power facilities in northern Ukraine, southern Ukraine and south-eastern Dnipropetrovsk regions.

Public Impact

In the northern Ukrainian city of northeastern Ukraine, hit hard by the offensive operations against the power supply, authorities have created emergency spaces where civilians are able to find shelter, access hot drinks, charge their phones and receive psychological support, according to regional head.

Global Measures

Ukraine's ambassador to Nato on midweek encouraged European allies to increase acquisitions of American military equipment for Kyiv. “The situation isn't that we favor American weapons rather than French or German or some other European weapons – the challenge remains that we require the America for systems that European countries can't provide,” said the diplomatic representative.

Germany's national police will shortly receive authorization to neutralize UAVs, government official said on midweek, following multiple drone sightings considered likely foreign operations to gather intelligence and deter. Announcing legal changes, the minister said security forces could legally “to take state-of-the-art technical action against UAV risks, such as electromagnetic pulses, electronic interference, GPS interference, but also with physical means”.

Regional Protection Issues

European leader declared on midweek that the European Union should strengthen its defenses to respond to Moscow's multifaceted attacks after aerial violations, digital assaults and submarine infrastructure disruption. “These aren't random harassment. They constitute a systematic and intensifying operation,” the leader said in a speech to the European parliament. “Two incidents are random chance, but three, five, ten – that represents a planned and specific ambiguous warfare operation against the European Union, and the EU needs to react.”

Humanitarian Situation

The Swiss authorities has extended its temporary shelter granted to people fleeing Ukraine to at least 4 March 2027. Humanitarian status, which permits refugees to leave the country as well as be employed in Switzerland, is typically restricted to one year but can be extended. “The decision shows the persistent dangerous conditions and continuing offensive operations across large parts of Ukraine,” said a federal announcement. “Regardless of international peace efforts, a permanent peace that would permit safe return is not projected in the foreseeable future.”
