‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Writing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, explained he finally felt ready to post publicly about his profound loss.
"Adequate time has gone by that I can at last put my grief into words," shared Elwes, adding that his introductory moment with Reiner left him smitten. "As we began spending more time together I realized this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor posted never-before-seen clips from the film, remarking that he cannot recall "any day without laughter".
"This story is about affection, allegiance and giving. Things that Rob valued immensely. That is part of the many reasons he was the ideal person to direct it," Elwes continued.
He additionally honored Michele Reiner, stating: "Claiming that they were a great team would be an oversimplification. My heart still pangs every time I think of you." He ended with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Reflects on a Fellow Artist
In a distinct piece, revered director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved being with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese wrote.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the main character.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked wonderfully with the cast, and he understood the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese wrote.

In a new development, a Los Angeles superior court judge ruled to block the publication of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, following a petition from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A legal directive placed a restriction on the files to limit the public release of "any investigative information, notes, reports or photos" associated with the ongoing investigation.
The relevant authority had already determined their deaths were the outcome of homicide, with a record citing the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
